ITADICT
Active from/to: 2011 – 2017
Research Team: Prof. Marcella Mariotti (Principal Investigator), Dr. Alessandro Mantelli (System Developer)
Contributors: more than 100 Ca’ Foscari University of Venice trainee-students
What is this project about?
ITADICT aimed to create a freely accessible Japanese-Italian database, openly inspired by Jim Breen’s JMdict/EDICT project (1991), where it draws its structure and main features.
ITADICT was developed thanks to the collaboration between Prof. Marcella Mariotti and Dr. Alessandro Mantelli, and it has been made possible also thanks to the collaboration of numerous students over time, who have contributed to the final version of the project. Funding has been provided by many entities, from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Sciences (JSPS) to the European Union, the Venice Chamber of Commerce, and many private companies interested in the research results.
ITADICT allows the user to conduct terminology research in Japanese language by writing in the Japanese (kana and kanji) or Latin (romaji) alphabets. The database has been migrated to the a4Edu website, where it is freely accessible.
